Sculpture, performance, video, artist

Montana van Duijn is a sculpture artist who attended Maine College of Art & Design and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Sculpture in May 2023.

Raised in rural Maine, Montana van Duijn grew up surrounded by the world's natural elements. From a young age she was fascinated by the woods and oceans, and the natural materials she collected from them.

Van Duijn comes from an artistic background. Her family lineage consists of many artists and creators, and in that way her Dutch heritage seeps through her hands as she delves into her work.

Van Duijn uses natural materials such as wax, wood, fire, sand, and stones, in hopes to bring non-denominational spirit and shadow-work into the physical realm to share that journey with others, and inspire the viewer to dream. She experiments with playing on the interconnectedness of all things as well as the isolation of different exclusive gateways to create solidarity between humankind and the natural world, with an awareness of specific cultural contexts.

Van Duijn likes to create ephemeral pieces, in the mediums of nature, video, and performance. The feeling of creating something that will not last plays into the roles of spirituality and magic for her.
