Beeswax, Chicken wire, Fire, Foam

Change has never been easy for Montana van Duijn. The way time inevitably moves forward, the way things unavoidably shift. Van Duijn wanted to make a piece about the subject of change because a very close friend of hers, Nina, passed away. Ever since then, she has been trying to understand it. She finds it hard to wrap her head around something so profound and unknown. Van Duijn has been trying to find a way to embody her friend in her everyday life. She has been trying to find a way to accept all the things that have, and will, change in her life. Van Duijn wanted this piece to be an ode to her. To make something weird and beautiful, just like she was. She wanted something to embody the weight of grief she feels. a measurable weighable object that could be worn and shared with others, and to understand it for herself.
